Complete Clinicals in Your Local Area, with No Clerkship Required!
CLINICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Working Professional Doctor of Pharmacy program's unique blended learning model allows you to complete all course and clinical requirements in three years, while continuing to practice pharmacy in your local area.
Traditional clinical clerkships have been replaced by Clinical Practice Assessments (CPAs) that are fully integrated into each aspect of the program. Students must complete 12 CPAs each year in lieu of traditional clinical rotations.
Clinical Practice Assessments are generally accomplished in your workplace or local community under the direction of a preceptor. For those students not actively working in, or able to gain immediate access to, a clinical setting, the WPPD program offers alternative methods to assist you in fulfilling this fundamental portion of the program:
- Several times during the year, the WPPD program hosts the Practice Experience Institute(PEI) on the University of Florida campus. Students in their first and second semesters are invited and encouraged to participate in the Institute to gain experience in completing their CPAs with the assistance of WPPD faculty. Several CPA credits are earned while attending the Institute, without the need to find a preceptor beforehand.
- Later in the program, another option is the personalized Clinical Practice Experience at University of Florida and Shands Hospital. During these sessions, you work with a clinical preceptor chosen by the University. You will receive individualized instruction in particular areas in which you need additional experience.
The need for access to patients and medical records is imperative in completing the required Clinical Practice Assessments as well as assignments and case presentations throughout the curriculum.
However, even if you do not currently practice in a clinical setting, our expert Enrollment Advisors are available to answer your questions about Clinical Practice Assessments and further discuss the use of preceptors and alternative opportunities for meeting clinical requirements.
